This panel discussion will identify the importance of timely humanitarian assistance through first-hand survivor accounts.

Survivors from Pan Am Flight 103, also known as the Lockerbie disaster, who initially received little support from government, airline, and other agencies.
Survivors from the World Trade Center terrorist attacks, also known as 9/11, who received support from government, airlines and other agencies.

International organizations will present the resources they offer to companies in supporting survivors of global tragedies

This panel will begin with a tragic story which illustrates the need for the proactive responses offered by cruise lines today, and finish with examples of how far the industry as a whole has evolved.

Delegates will have the opportunity to talk with survivors and experts on the subject of humanitarian assistance. The evening will also see the presentation of three awards:
The Reception, Awards presentations and Gala Dinner will be held at the Rusty Pelican; a Miami landmark restaurant with million dollar views. The Survivor Reception, held just before dinner, serves to honor all of the primary and family survivors who have so graciously given their time to join with us and be part of our Symposium. They willingly share their stories with everyone in attendance.
Transportation will be provided for all attendees from the hotel to the Restaurant and return.

Experts will discuss their experiences and highlight best practice from incidents in which they have been directly involved, before answering delegate questions. Speakers include highly experienced executives from global brands, such as American Airlines, Carnival Cruise Lines, Carnival UK, Flexjet, Maersk Drilling, Norwegian Cruise Line and Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd.

A new panel to address the challenges corporate communicators face in crises has been added to the program for the International Humanitarian Assistance Symposium (IHAS). To be held in Miami June 7-8, 2012, IHAS is a meeting to enhance industry response to emergencies and disasters through knowledge-sharing, with the goal of ensuring that those involved in an unforeseen tragedy are provided with the support they need.

Tomás P Regalado, the Mayor of Miami, has pledged his support for the International Humanitarian Assistance Symposium 2012, a two day symposium that will enhance industry response to emergencies and disasters, ensuring those involved in an unforeseen tragedy are given the support they need.
